HOUSTON, TX | Rice University engaged MVLA for a series of projects including a Landscape Framework Plan, a precinct study, and a series of entry upgrades. This work considers changes to the built form of the campus with expanded program and rising student population, greater building density and height, increased impervious surface, and growing environmental pressures related to water management. It enriches the existing master plan by adding new landscape typologies like a riparian greenway and extending green corridors to better manage storm events. By reinforcing the historic balance of buildings with the natural landscape, the work supports the evolution of the campus identity, particularly the defining landscape character of the iconic Live Oak canopy.
